ABOUT WAZIGA
In 2000 only 6 players participated. By 2002 the Zimbabwe Independence golf tournament had grown to 18 players and that year the founding members decided to donate the proceeds from the tournament to a charity organization in Zimbabwe. Given the success of the Zimbabwe. Independence tournaments, the founding members decided to expand the base of charity beneficiaries in Zimbabwe. In January 2006 the Washington State Golf Association (WAZIGA) was incorporated as a non-profit corporation to step up the fundraising efforts as well as broaden WAZIGA goals. In 2007 WAZIGA was certified as a 601 C3 organization under the USA IRS classification.
The long term goal of WAZIGA is to bring together not only Zimbabweans in Diaspora but people with an interest to bring about social betterment for the people of Zimbabwe. Golf is a passionate game that requires discipline, perseverance, patience and focus. Considering the economic situation in Zimbabwe, Zimbabweans certainly have such attributes that deserve complimenting.
It is our hope at WAZIGA to build a bridge between humanitarian needs in Zimbabwe and resources in the United States of America. Golf as a sport in Zimbabwe lack viable youth development programs and at WAZIGA we plan to initiate outreach programs that can put into place the much needed resources to promote golf among the youth ¡n Zimbabwe.
